App for healthy food

App for healthy food

Initiator(s):

Flemish Agency for Care and Health (VAZG) - Flemish Institute for Healthy Living (VIGeZ)

Many Flemish people eat unhealthy food. In order to change this behaviour the government wants to support its citizens at the moment they are in the shop buying food, but also before and after the purchase. In order to realise this, the Flemish Agency for Care and Health and the Flemish Institute for Healthy Living want to develop a smartphone application.
Assessment framework/grid for alternative fire safety measures

Assessment framework/grid for alternative fire safety measures

Initiator(s):

Department of Welfare, Public Health and Family (WVG) and Flemish Infrastructure Fund for Personal Matters (VIPA)

Many alternative technologies already exist in the field of fire safety in buildings. However, these are not always optimal for use in new or existing care facilities because their effectiveness in combined applications is insufficiently known. On top of this, a regulatory framework is lacking.
Automatic subtitling by means of speech recognition technology

Automatic subtitling by means of speech recognition technology

Initiator(s):

VRT

The project wants to develop a tool that can (for the greater part) automatically run the subtitling process by automatically transcribing video content and automatically producing subtitles from this. Such a tool could increase both the productivity of the web editors and the quality of the subtitling.
Blockchain on the Move

Blockchain on the Move

Initiator(s):

Flemish government - ‘Informatie Vlaanderen’ agency and ‘Het Facilitair Bedrijf’ agency, City of Antwerp - Innovation and Technology Division, Digipolis, Flemish ICT Organisation (V-ICT-OR)

The project ‘Blockchain on the Move’ aims to provide citizens, by means of Blockchain and Internet of Things (IoT), with a ‘Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI)’ that they can use in their interaction with the government, but also with other organisations or companies.

Capsat: Satellites imagery information for a better agricultural policy in Flanders and Europe

Capsat: Satellites imagery information for a better agricultural policy in Flanders and Europe

Circular building with bio-based building materials

Circular building with bio-based building materials

Initiator(s):

Autonomous municipal company BEXIT

The project wants to validate a construction process with circular bio-based materials. This case will then be made available to raise awareness among public and private building owners on the one hand, and more generally in the broader construction sector on the other.
CO2 neutral, circular concrete formulation for sustainable trench silos in agriculture

CO2 neutral, circular concrete formulation for sustainable trench silos in agriculture

Initiator(s):

ILVO

In agriculture, concrete trench silos are built in concrete with cement to resist acidic silo juices. The environmental impact of this cement and concrete is very significant. ILVO - The Flanders Research Institute for agriculture, fisheries and food - is looking for a more environmentally friendly alternative.
Construction and implementation of a mobile unit for stroke treatment

Construction and implementation of a mobile unit for stroke treatment

Initiator(s):

UZ Leuven

This project wishes to carry out and validate the construction and implementation of a fully-fledged ambulance equipped with CT scan and audio-video connectivity. Since a lot of time is lost during the transport of the patient to a hospital equipped with a CT scan, a lot of time can potentially be saved by performing a CT scan at the patient's home.
Development of an Optimo garbage truck

Development of an Optimo garbage truck

The simultaneous collection of the various separated waste fractions in one single transport is more sustainable (fewer kilometres) and financially more interesting. But technically there remains a problem: the Optimo garbage trucks can only press limitedly, as the bags should not tear. Research is needed on the design of loading systems (or logistical alternatives).
Digital Care Platform

Digital Care Platform

The Flemish Agency for Care and Health wants to develop a digital platform that supports interdisciplinary cooperation in healthcare. The platform will make relevant information about the care and assistance provided by a person in need of care available to that person, as well as to his or her voluntary caregivers, if any, and the professional help/care providers involved.

e-RenoZone: Energetic Renovation without worries

e-RenoZone: Energetic Renovation without worries

Initiator(s):

IGEMO

The high demand for renovation advice shows that the intention to renovate is high among individual citizens. However, the renovation rate is not increasing in line with these intentions. The step to a contractor still seems too big for the individual citizen. The E-RenoZone wants to bridge this gap and develop a digital platform where supply and demand can easily find each other. A kind of 'booking.com' for the renovation market will be created.
Ecosystem services and environmental impact assessment in spatial development projects

Ecosystem services and environmental impact assessment in spatial development projects

The project will enable us to design a methodology and create tools to successfully integrate ecosystem services analyses and environmental impact assessments within the existing policy processes so that decision-making on complex spatial projects becomes more robust in Flanders.
Elsa - AI supported de-icing decisions

Elsa - AI supported de-icing decisions

The Agency for Roads and Traffic (AWV) is responsible for combating slipperiness on Flemish roads under its own management. AWV wants to develop a system that can support the district staff in their decisions and that can lead to a more uniform de-icing policy across the districts. By combining physical rules and machine learning techniques, the system can help to weigh up the options and indicate which type of de-icing method and substance, in which quantity and at which time, is best suited to clear and keep the roads in the district free of ice.
